Purpose of the Role
To support the Manager in overseeing daily operations of the credit union, ensuring excellent member service, compliance with regulatory requirements, staff supervision, and contributing to strategic growth and operational efficiency. Deputise for the Manager in their absence.
 
Operational Support
Assist in managing all aspects of day-to-day branch/credit union operations.
Deputise for the Manager in their absence and take responsibility for operational continuity.
Oversee account opening/closing, member transactions, and accurate financial processing.
Support preparation of year-end routines (e.g. dividend run).
Monitor cash handling
Assist with overseeing all administration functions, premises and equipment etc.
Payroll Processing.

Member services
Provide high-quality service to members, addressing enquiries and resolving issues professionally.
Identify member needs and recommend suitable credit union products/services.
Staff Supervision & Development
Supervise, coach, and motivate staff, ensuring effective coverage and development.
Co-ordinate staff scheduling, training, and performance appraisals.

Governance & Compliance
Maintain and update governance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
Prepare board/committee packs and maintain statutory registers.
Assist with Fitness & Probity, GDPR, and data protection compliance.
Monitor adherence to Minimum Competency Requirements.
Internal Controls & Audit Coordination
Support internal/external audit processes.
Track implementation of audit recommendations.

Regulatory Reporting
Central Bank regulatory returns.
Monitoring of regulatory updates.
Board & Committee Support
Manage agendas, minutes, and action logs.
Track director training requirements.
Provide governance guidance.

Other
To act as loans officer/teller as required
Perform additional duties as directed by the Manager or Board
Required Qualifications & Experience
Relevant third-level qualification in Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
Experience in financial services, ideally within a credit union or similar regulated environment.
Supervisory or team leadership experience desirable.
QFA desirable.
Understanding of the Credit Union Act and Central Bank of Ireland requirements.

Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and team-management ability.
Excellent member-service and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of financial products, operations, and compliance standards.
Proficient in using financial and office software (e.g., banking systems, Microsoft Office).
Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical skills.

Other Requirements
High attention to detail and ethical conduct.
Ability to prioritise workload in a dynamic environment.
Flexibility to attend meetings, events, or training outside core hours (if needed).

Summary
This Assistant Manager role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient operation and strategic development of the credit union. You’ll act as a trusted deputy to the Manager, balancing leadership, compliance and excellent member service to contribute to the financial wellness of your members and the growth of your organisation.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience.  This is  a full time role.
