Hours:  37.5 hours per week 
Status:   Permanent Post
Salary scale:   £26,000 – £28,000 per year

 
The successful candidate will embrace our vision and values and will positively contribute to the credit union Finance Department to ensure that all the credit union performance standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management
  • Post cashiers’ summary sheets onto the integrated system on a daily basis.
  • Reconcile bank accounts daily to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate records, including the preparation of accounts up to the Balance Sheet and monthly accounts for presentation to the Board of Directors.
  • Undertake the preparation and analysis of financial and management accounts.
Member Services
  • Respond promptly and professionally to members’ queries, providing accurate information and assistance.
General Administration
  • Open and close the office in line with operational requirements and assist in securing the premises in the evening.
  • Approve loans up to Level 1 in accordance with the organisation’s loan policy.
  • Act as a cheque signatory, ensuring compliance with internal controls and authorisation processes.
  • Undertake such other reasonable and lawful duties as may be directed from time to time by the CEO
Essential Criteria – Applicants must have:
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above (including English and Maths) and 3 years relevant experience in a finance office.
  • OR 5 years relevant experience in a finance office 

And demonstrate the following essential competencies:

  • Accounting/ financial experience, including experience in the production of management accounts and bank reconciliations.
  • Experience of using nominal ledgers.
  • Experience using financial software.
  • Excellent level of IT literacy and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages to include Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting practices.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with strong background in accounts.
  • Good problem-solving capabilities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with enthusiastic outgoing attitude.
  • Proven ability to work independently and under pressure with the ability to prioritise work within a busy Finance office.
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Relevant third level degree and / or professional qualification
  • Previous experience of working in finance within a credit union environment.
  • 1 years’ experience of using an integrated accounting software system.
  • Understanding of payroll.
  • Experience in online payment processes.
  • Commitment to and familiarity with the principles and ideals of the Credit Union movement including a good understanding of the Credit Union ethos.
  • An awareness of the provisions and application of the Data Protection Act.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations, industry practices and professional standards.
