Role Summary

The Lending Officer will work as part of the Lending Team providing lending requirements to our members.  The lending Officer will also contribute to the smooth operation of the credit union by undertaking related administrative and organisational tasks.
 

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluating Loan Applications: Responsible for assessing the creditworthiness of applicants by reviewing financial documents, credit reports, income statements, and other pertinent information to determine the borrower’s ability to repay the loan.
  • Interviewing Applicants: Required to conduct interviews with potential borrowers to gather personal and financial information, answer questions, and explain different loan options and their terms. 
  • Processing Documentation: Responsible for collecting, verifying, and processing all necessary documentation required for the loan application, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations. 
  • Making Approval Decisions: Based on their evaluation, they either approve loan applications within their authority or forward them to Senior Lending Officer with a recommendation.
  • Customer Service and Counselling: provide guidance to members throughout the loan process, advising on suitable loan products, explaining policies and restrictions, and assisting with any issues that arise. 
  • Maintaining Knowledge of Lending Policies: Staying informed about our lending products, industry regulations, and market conditions. 
Key Performance Indicators
  • Teamwork and contribution to the smooth and efficient running of the Lending Team and the credit union overall.
  • Success in providing an efficient service to members with timely turnaround on loans
  • Success in assisting to resolve backlogs on loan assessment.
  • Ability to assist the Senior Lending with reporting and lending underwriting
The Person
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a financial service or a credit union environment. (Favourable)
  • A good standard of education.
  • Hold QFA/APA qualifications or a willingness to work towards same to achieve minimum competency requirements, as set by the Central Bank of Ireland for the Credit Union sector.
  • Have high standards of professionalism in relation to credit and compliance with all relevant legislation, regulation, and policies and standards.                                                                                                                     
  • Excellent administrative, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritise workload and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Renumeration package will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
