We are looking for a Mid-Level Practice Accountant to join our expanding accountancy practice located in Edinburgh. Our work is varied and interesting and we provide a friendly, flexible, and proactive all year-round service to small businesses and individuals in the local area.

We are looking for a Mid-Level Practice Accountant to join our team and contribute to our continued growth.
IDEAL CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
As a Mid-Level Practice Accountant, you will be responsible for preparing and reviewing VAT returns, self-assessments, and basic accounts for a variety of clients. A key part of the role will be developing and maintaining strong client relationships, ensuring their queries are answered promptly and effectively. You will also play a role in engaging with new prospects and supporting their onboarding process.
RESPONSIBLITIES
The key duties of the post are as follows:
• VAT Returns Preparation: Prepare accurate and timely VAT returns for clients, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and filing deadlines.
• Self-Assessment Returns: Handle the preparation and submission of self-assessment tax returns for individual clients, ensuring all allowable deductions and tax-saving opportunities are considered.
• Accounts Preparation: Assist in the preparation of basic financial statements and accounts for small businesses, partnerships, and sole traders.
• Client Relationships: Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with clients by understanding their business needs, providing tailored advice, and ensuring their satisfaction with our services.
• Client Queries: Respond promptly and effectively to client queries via phone, email, or in-person meetings, providing clarity and resolution on accounting and tax matters.
• New Client Prospects: Assist in meeting potential new clients, discussing their accounting needs, and helping them understand how our services can support their goals.
• Compliance & Deadlines: Ensure that all work complies with relevant legislation and meets strict filing deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• AAT, ACCA, ACA part qualified or equivalent qualification (or working towards)
• 2-3 years of experience in an accountancy practice
• Strong understanding of VAT regulations, tax laws, and self-assessment processes
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Freeagent) and Taxcalc
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on building strong client relationships
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently and manage a portfolio of clients
• Strong organisational and time management skills to meet multiple deadlines
SALARY AND BENEFITS
