CORE PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The SQL Database Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning of databases hosted on Windows platforms. This role involves ensuring the reliability, security, and optimal performance of database systems, as well as providing technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues.

MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB INCLUDE:
Database Management:
• Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) on Windows servers,
including Oracle, My-SQL and Postgress.
• Monitor and optimize database performance, including query tuning and indexing.
• Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and
availability.

Security and Compliance:
• Configure and enforce database security policies and access controls.
• Monitor for security vulnerabilities and apply patches or updates as needed.
• Ensure databases comply with industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, POPIA, HIPAA, etc).

Performance Monitoring and Tuning:
• Continuously monitor database performance using tools and techniques to identify and address
performance bottlenecks.
• Optimize database queries and configurations to enhance efficiency and speed.

Troubleshooting and Support:
• Provide technical support and resolve database-related issues reported by users or identified
through monitoring tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database errors, connectivity issues, and performance problems.

Data Management:
• Develop and maintain scripts for database maintenance, automation, and data migration tasks.
• Ensure data integrity and consistency across database systems.
Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and
troubleshooting steps.
• Generate and review reports on database performance, security, and usage.
Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and other IT staff to support
database-related needs and projects.
• Provide training and support to end-users regarding database usage and best practices.
Compliance and Best Practices:
• Ensure that database management practices adhere to industry standards and regulatory
requirements
• Stay current with emerging trends, tools, and best practices in database administration and
Windows server management.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems, databases and related technologies.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, Oracle Database
Administrator) are advantageous.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• Proven experience as a Database Administrator, particularly in a Windows environment.
• Proficiency with database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
• Experience with database performance tuning, backup, and recovery.Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell or SQL.
•Exposure to cloud technologies ie, AWS & Azure
