Accountant (97 views)

We are an accountancy practice based in Montrose with a second office in Arbroath. We provide services to the business sector, which includes limited companies that do not require audits, sole traders and self-employed businesses, personal tax return filers, and various bookkeeping and compliance services. We don’t do auditing – this is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn and grow with our business, developing you accounting and tax skills, rather than just ticking boxes.

We are part of the TaxAssist Accountants network of practices that is the largest franchise network of accountants in the UK.

This means that we have a wealth of experience in developing people and processes, building on the expertise of a huge group of engaged accountants and business owners.

We have a local team of 8 staff and may use outsourcing resources to complement our team when required. We are in the process of developing the local team to cater for our own business growth providing services to clients across Angus and South Aberdeenshire. We would like to recruit Accountants at various levels in the organisation. This includes experienced Accountants who have ambitions to further grow their own knowledge and experience, while developing a career path within our business as it expands. If you have at least two years of practice experience, then this could be you.

Skills

You must be a confident speaker, who can liaise with our team, and directly with clients, who require a personal and professional service.

You will be eager to work in a cloud-based environment, where our suite of systems is the leading software used in our industry and you will become knowledgeable and skilled in these systems.

We have a wide range of procedures that support our business services, and you will learn and understand these procedures and help to improve and develop the procedures as your knowledge and experience grows.

This role is within our Production Accounting team, and you will have hands on responsibilities, and be able to demonstrate your knowledge and be a solution driven individual. We work closely as a team, sharing in team performance targets, and celebrating our successes.

As our Accountant you may join us as either (1) a part or fully qualified accountant, or (2) with experience behind you. We may also consider (3) graduate accountants with degree and looking for that first opportunity.

Most important is that you will have a positive, can-do attitude, and be eager to learn new systems and procedures, and develop your skills.

To perform the job brilliantly, you will prepare accountancy and tax work, including preparation of Company accounts and Company tax returns, plus Sole Trader accounts and Personal tax returns. You will participate in VAT and Payroll work, guiding junior staff and ensuring team targets are completed in a timely manner. You would have client responsibilities and liaise directly with clients to ensure delivery by targeted deadlines, and first-class customer service. So excellent communication skills are important.

This role will require attention to detail and for you to be a strong character who is not afraid to take on responsibility to achieve deadlines.

You will have initiative and can be relied upon to work through tasks or know when to ask for help.

The ideal candidate would have previous experience working in an accounting practice, but if this is new to you, you will offer a positive mindset, and a can-do attitude. This is an office-based role, so please don’t apply if looking for a remote role or if you don’t hold the right to work in the UK.

Benefits

The initial salary for the role is ranged between £23k to £28k, and this will be driven by experience, ambition, and demonstration of success to date.

The role will be based initially in our Montrose office but could be based out of either of our offices.

If you would like to apply for the role, we would love to hear from you.
